| Close Encounters |
Close Encounters – a program whose purpose is to create joint ventures between Israeli and foreign producers.. This approach opens up for Israeli filmmakers additional funding channels and access to national cultural funds.
The Close Encounters program today has two main tracks:
*Catalogue and Close Encounters meetings – every year CoPro issues a call to Israeli documentary makers to submit proposals for films with potential for an international joint venture. The screenplays are at every stage of development, and local sources of finance are involved. CoPro produces the proposals in a catalogue sent to leading producers abroad and content editors at the leading networks in order to initiate meetings between them and the filmmakers. The CoPro team organizes the meetings according to the requests of the foreign producers, and they take place during the May Co-Productions market.
*Producers Delegation – this track started in 2009 to promote closer relations and reciprocity between foreign and Isreali producers, and its objective is to host a delegation from a foreign country with which Israel has a film treaty. Members of the delegation take part in the various CoPro events, present their own films to Israeli producers and local broadcasting bodies, and take part in one-on-one meetings with Israeli producers.
To date CoPro has hosted delegations of producers from Germany and Poland
* Latest date for submitting proposals for the Close Encounters is Sunday 3 April 2011.
